Postpartum Doula Job Description

This is a part-time or full-time position for postpartum doulas to offer daytime and overnight in-home postpartum support to families in the community, and in-house support at Tandem. Bilingual and multi-lingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in Spanish or willing to work night shifts.

Requirements:   

Energetic and supportive individuals to provide evidence-based education to families in their homes on subjects including emotional and physical recovery from birth, basic newborn care, parent-baby bonding, infant feeding and soothing, light meal prep, household support, and transitioning to life with a baby.  

While current enrollment or completion of an accredited postpartum doula training/certification program is highly recommended, it is not required.  All Tandem postpartum doulas will complete mandatory, paid, in-house training administered by Tandem staff.  Training will be followed by a probationary period with supplemental supervision. Ability to work some overnight support shifts is preferred. 

Postpartum doulas will start at a daytime rate of $20/hr. with an initial weekly minimum of 5 hours per week between direct in-home family/infant support and administrative and community-support-based tasks completed at Tandem Birth Center and Postpartum House.  An hourly rate for in-home, overnight doula support will range from $18-30/hr. depending on the level of support requested and if doula is allowed by the family being supported to sleep during the shift while the baby/babies sleep when all other assigned tasks are completed. 

Postpartum doulas will accrue paid time off at a rate of 0.05 hours earned per 1 hour worked.  

Additional Requirements 
  • Ability to move or lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. 

  • Current active status or willingness to receive or update the following vaccinations: Influenza, Measles, Mumps and Rubella and Covid-19 

As part of employment, Tandem will offer the Hepatitis B vaccination and antibody testing to postpartum doulas at no cost. Successful candidates will additionally complete adult and infant CPR/first aid training and certification and education on bloodborne pathogens supplied by Tandem.
