Now Offering: In-Home Postpartum Doula Services
Your first priorities after having a baby should be letting your body heal and getting to know the new little one(s) in your life. The more you can let your village take care of the rest, the better.
Tandem postpartum doulas serve community families by offering and assisting with comfort, education, nourishment, companionship, resource connection, direct infant care, sibling, and household support. Whether helping in your home or during a stay at a Tandem Postpartum House Guest Room, our doulas offer education and support in the following areas:
Supporting emotional and physical recovery after birth
Handling a newborn
Helping with post-birth comfort measures
Creating a nurturing, restful atmosphere in which parents may eat, shower and nap
Hands-on infant care instruction (feeding, burping, bathing, diapering, dressing, taking temperature, skin and nail care, calming techniques)
Umbilical cord/circumcision care
Breast pump/accessory education and support
Sleep support
Light meal/beverage prep
Overnight care
Errand running
Light household support
Screening for feeding challenges and postpartum mood disorders
Referring to other care providers when needs exceed our scope of practice
Providing emotional support and processing of feelings about birth or what it feels like to have the baby at home

Paying for Doula Support
Ask your employer to see if they are participating in Tandem’s Postpartum Benefit Plan
Check your HSA and contact your insurance provider to see if there is any coverage for postpartum doula support. Check also with your employer’s HR department to see if there may be other eligible benefits that can be used.
Tandem’s office manager is also available to assist with making insurance inquiries (admin@tandembloomington.org)
Shifts must be a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 7 hours per doula for in-home support services
Tandem provides support for all, regardless of ability to pay.
Postpartum Doula Rates and Levels of Service
In-Home Daytime Postpartum Doula Support: $30/hr. Need-based assistance available.
In-Home Overnight Postpartum Support Levels:
Tier 1 – Doula provides direct infant care managing sleep, feedings, and diaper changes while having the ability to sleep while the baby sleeps during a shift: $25/hr. Need-based assistance available.
Tier 2 – Doula provides direct infant care managing sleep, feedings, and diaper changes, may sleep during shifts while the baby sleeps, and offers support with baby laundry, bottle and/or pump part washing, and diaper disposal: $30/hr. Need-based assistance available.
Tier 3 – The doula provides direct infant care managing sleep, feedings, and diaper changes, will not sleep during shifts, and offers support with diaper disposal, and completing household chores for the entire family including laundry, dishes, sweeping, and light meal prep: $40/hr. Need-based assistance available.

Future Offerings: Tandem Postpartum House Guest Rooms/Extended Stays. Tandem will open 4 overnight guest suites for stays up to 5 days during the 4th trimester. Cost of stay will include all meals, postpartum support from Tandem doulas and free access to all Tandem classes, support groups and activities happening during your stay. Let the doula hold your baby while you shower or take a nap! Attend a session on pelvic floor health. Snuggle your baby without having to worry about anything else.

Community Meal Train: Join Now!
Members of our community who have limited resources and/or support networks during and after pregnancy may sign up to receive a postpartum community meal train.
New Families Receive:
One free, nourishing meal a week for 8 weeks.
Delivered by a Tandem Team Member to their door. (30 minute radius from Bloomington)
Ability to access other Tandem resources
Email admin@tandembloomington.org with the subject “Community Meal Train” or call 812-727-0134 and leave a secure voicemail to become a recipient.
